During the recent Cabinet briefing, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister Lionel Max Hurst said a vendor has been chosen and discussions are currently underway to secure the best possible terms for the government.
The system requires an initial investment of EC $700,000 and annual licensing fees around EC $350,000. Its goal is to modernize the arrival process for visitors by replacing the existing paper-based Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) cards with a digital system.
The selection process has included thorough evaluations by various government agencies, including the Customs and Excise Division, Immigration Department, Inland Revenue Department, and representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Finance.
Three companies previously presented their proposals to the Cabinet, highlighting features such as enhanced marketing capabilities, improved research functions, and the integration of police databases for identifying persons of interest.
Although the Cabinet has identified a preferred vendor, Hurst stated that specific details are being kept under wraps until negotiations conclude, ensuring the government secures the best deal possible.
The timeline for implementing the new electronic system will be announced once the negotiations are finalized and the contract is signed.
