Ivor Bird to be laid to rest today

Family, friends, and other well-wishers will gather at the Ebenezer Methodist Church this morning to pay their final respects to media mogul Ivor Bird.

Bird was the former Managing Director of Greenville Radio Ltd and the son of the Father of Nation, the late Prime Minister V.C. Bird Senior, and brother to former PM, Sir Lester Bird and the late Vere Bird Jr.

Known widely as ‘The Silent One,’ he led ZDK Radio and Sun FM for several decades.

Bird was also an accomplished athlete. He earned distinction as the final gold medallist in the high jump at the 1965 British West Indies Championships and represented Antigua and Barbuda at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

Bird passed away on December 3rd of last year. The 80-year-old was found dead at his home in Halcyon Heights.

The funeral begins at 10 am.
