The country’s maritime sector is in mourning following the untimely passing of Berisford Sam, the respected Chief Pilot and Marine Manager at the Antigua Port Authority.
Sam succumbed to a brief illness at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center yesterday, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and professionalism.
Darwin Telemaque, the Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua Port Authority, shared heartfelt sentiments about Sam’s contributions during an interview with state media.
He emphasized that Sam was not only a diligent worker but also a person of great integrity who will be missed by his colleagues and the wider community.
“He was a fair man who truly loved his job,” Telemaque remarked. “His commitment to his team and his country was unwavering, and he always took precautions to ensure that his actions did not jeopardize the nation’s interests”
Sam was not just an employee; he embodied a vision for development and progress within the maritime sector, actively supporting the initiatives and direction the Authority was pursuing.
With more than 40 years of service at the port authority, he played a vital role in shaping the operations and ensuring the safety and efficiency of maritime activities in Antigua.
His absence will undoubtedly leave a significant void in the organization and among those who had the privilege to know and work alongside him.
