An American Airlines flight collided mid-air with a Black Hawk helicopter over Washington DC, leading to both aircraft crashing into the Potomac River.

The flight was arriving from Wichita, Kansas, and had 67 passengers and four crew members on board, while the helicopter was carrying three soldiers.

Currently, nineteen bodies have been recovered, according to a law enforcement source, and rescue teams are continuing their search in the frigid waters.

The US Figure Skating Association has confirmed that “several members of the skating community” were on the flight.

The incident occurred near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport around 9:00 PM local time.

US President Donald Trump has stated he has been briefed on the terrible accident and said “may God bless their souls”

All flights to and from Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., have been halted until at least 11 a.m. on Thursday. Video captured from the nearby Kennedy Center shows two groups of lights resembling different aircraft merging into a fireball.
