Jeconiah Carbon has been convicted of attempted murder for a 2020 incident involving a homosexual.

The case centres on an incident where the accused, then 19, lured a 29-year-old man to the beach with promises of a sexual encounter before attempting to take his life.

Evidence presented during the week-long trial revealed a complex two-year relationship between the men, beginning in 2018.

Their social media communications showed the accused seeking favours, including requests for an iPhone.

One of the very few requests that were granted was that of a $100 loan that he could not repay.

He therefore agreed to have sexual intercourse with the complainant but when they did meet, the accused used a knife to inflict an injury to the victim’s neck and body.

Defence attorney Michael Archibald argued that his client’s actions were prompted by feelings of coercion when attempting to withdraw consent.

The jury sided with the prosecution, returning a guilty verdict today.
