Princess Margaret School Announces New Sports Hall of Fame Members

Princess Margaret School (PMS) has named several outstanding athletes and coaches to its Hall of Fame as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations.

The announcement came during a Monday press conference ahead of the school’s  Sports Day today where the new members will be inducted.

The new members include both historical figures and more recent athletes. Dr. Richard Englehorn, a coach from the 1970s who helped develop many national athletes, is among the inductees. Another notable addition is Joycelyn Joseph McBride, who competed in the Olympics twice and made it to the semifinals in the 200-meter race at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

The list also features Hayden Joseph, nicknamed “Mr Carifta,” who made history as the first person from Antigua to run 400 meters in under 50 seconds. More recent inductees include Miguel Francis, who holds the national record for the 200-meter sprint at 19.67 seconds.

Other honorees include:

Dave ‘Pinico’ Gilead, who excelled in multiple sports from 1967 to 1972
Mark Bowers, who played for the West Indies youth cricket team
Kalique St John, known for winning medals in long-distance running
Robertine Bridgette Williams, who stood out in netball and basketball
Mervyn Richards, who coached from 1985-1987
Kareem Mackie Edwards, who achieved success in basketball and track and field

    I was coached under Dr Engle horn while I was there in the 70s he deserves it.. congrats to the athletes.

    Congrats to all the new inductees into Princess Margaret School’s Hall of Fame! It’s great to see both historical and modern athletes being recognized for their contributions to sports.
