A bus driver was convicted of serious indecency but acquitted of rape charges in a verdict delivered yesterday afternoon by a jury.
The man, who is in his early 50s, faced criminal charges related to a February 2023 incident involving a 21-year-old woman with a developmental disability.
The victim, who functions at an adolescent cognitive level, met Emmanuel through social media before the incident occurred at an abandoned building on February 15, 2023.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that Emmanuel drove the victim to the location where the alleged assault took place.
The defence, led by attorney Lawrence Daniels, maintained that the relationship was consensual, claiming Emmanuel believed the victim was capable of giving consent.
After deliberation, the jury found the man guilty of forcing the victim to perform oral sex but not guilty of rape.
Emmanuel’s sentencing has been scheduled for March 14.

There are other bus drivers that are preying on our young females especially our young teens. There is a well known bus driver in his early sixties that runs the Coolidge routes who has a long history of molesting and raping young girls. I don’t normally takes the bus; however, one day I was on the bus he flirted with a 14 year old school girl. Some passengers on the bus whispered among themselves saying that it’s not the first time he flirted with this 14 year old.
I know people have to work but I don’t know how he regained a license to carry passengers, especially our young girls knowing his history. A leopard cannot change his spots.
Daily he regained a license because people like you and the passengers who were whispering failed for make a report to the police who would have subsequent informed transport board and have his license taken away from him. Antiguans and humans in general always like whispering amoung each other about evil and refuses to expose it. Expose the man. Lef the authorities know. Protect the vulnerable. Speaking in silence or coning here will not fix it. Make a report. Save somebody’s child
Let’s be gel Amen, the way the country is going now. Even when you make reports they do nothing about it. It’s becoming a trend where they say these young girls just love man and they are lying. I know of a situation where it took a teacher to believe in a young girl, cause even her very own mother called her a liar. The bus drivers need to see young girls and leave them. Some have them at the very front of their bus in that middle seat and they touching their legs. Some of these young girls give in for the benefits and some a well minded. The thing is both the young girl and the bus driver know it’s wrong. And this don’t only go to bus drivers, those big men that are acting like big brothers in public too, slowing down your car to call a girl who’s well adorned in school uniform. Yeah you too
