Prime Minister Gaston Browne has expressed his agreement with the World Bank’s recent assessment of the Caribbean’s education system, which has been described as being in a state of crisis.
During a virtual webinar last week, World Bank officials highlighted the systemic inadequacies that are currently undermining educational outcomes across the region.
They pointed to outdated teaching methods, insufficient infrastructure, and growing educational inequities as critical issues requiring immediate attention.
In light of these concerns, the Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need for reforms, stating that substantial financial investment and enhanced support for teachers are essential to reversing the declining standards in education.
“We still have somewhat of a mismatch in terms of many scholarships that people are pursuing versus the jobs that are available,” Browne noted, stressing the necessity for improved career guidance within schools.
As the Caribbean stands at a crossroads regarding its educational policies, Browne’s statements signal a commitment to addressing the pressing challenges and creating a more equitable and effective system for all students.
We must work hard to improve the education system.
Not only that, we also need to provide our students with the necessary tools and infrastructure to achieve better learning..
