Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister Lionel Max Hurst has informed the media that Cabinet has been briefed on the progress of the ECCA States in their quest to regain Category One status.

This critical measure hinges on the successful implementation of necessary legislation across the seven destinations that comprise the ECCA.

According to reports, the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) of the United States and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) are actively monitoring the readiness of these states. Their assessments lead to a classification of the regions, dictating the Category status.

Currently, the ECCA states have been working diligently to meet the required criteria set by these oversight bodies.

In a bid to expedite the process, the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) has assured the Cabinet that it will be bringing on board two additional experts. This step is vital for fulfilling the obligations necessary to achieve the coveted Category One designation.

To achieve this goal, three pivotal tasks have been outlined:

  1. Amending existing legislation to comply with international standards.
  2. Updating regulations to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
  3. Preparing for an increase in inspections to ensure ongoing adherence to stringent aviation guidelines.

The assurance of preparedness and commitment from both the ECCAA and the respective ECCA states signals a robust approach towards enhancing their aviation safety reputation and fostering greater international connectivity.
