With the purchase of several new garbage trucks, Prime Minister Gaston Browne is putting private operators on notice.
PM Browne while speaking on the Browne and Browne show explained that with these new additions that are government-owned, those private operators who have been taking advantage of the system could find themselves without a job.
According to the PM, in the past, some operators have been collecting money without collecting garbage from around the island. A practice, he says, government is now working on eradicating.
“Our solution to the problem was for the government to intervene and to bring a significant amount of the work back into the government’s control so that we can have a more reliable collection of our garbage.
“Some of these individuals with multiple trucks and so on, we are going to relieve them of their contracts and the government will perform the service. Some will continue to have work. Especially, the more reliable ones but those who had the old equipment and were gaming the system, we are going to discontinue use of their service,” PM Browne said.
Government acquired 10 garbage trucks.
That’s wonderful Mr Brown, hope you maintain them. Remember it’s because of lack of maintenance that caused you to hire private contractors.. your trucks broke down..
Progress looks good on you my beloved Prime Minister and let’s maintain these trucks so we can continue to use them for a very long time as we tackle other projects and get Antigua to be the Mecca of the Caribbean.
Yet government cannot pay those who work in the public service.
and what is this worth?
Some of them private operations does really overdo it. The government has to do what it has to do
Put them on notice PM some of them really know how to work the system
