VIDEO: PM Browne Takes Legal Action Against Daughter of Russian Billionaire
In a response to a recent lawsuit, Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda has deployed a legal team to defend himself and his family against allegations surrounding the controversial sale of the Alfa Nero, a lavish megayacht formerly owned by a U.S.-sanctioned Russian billionaire.
The lawsuit, which implicates Prime Minister Browne, his wife Maria, and their son Gaston Browne III, raises concerns that could have far-reaching implications not just for the individuals involved but for the nation as a whole.
Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office, Lionel Max Hurst, has articulated the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing that the Prime Minister is committed to defending his reputation vigorously.
At the heart of the case is a request from the billionaire’s daughter for access to financial records linked to the sale of the 265-foot (81-meter) yacht.
The administration is currently under scrutiny for its decision to seize and sell the Alfa Nero without releasing essential documents regarding the transaction.
Hurst remarked on the financial strain the lawsuit could impose, suggesting it could cost the government hundreds of thousands of dollars.
He insisted, however, that the government acted within legal boundaries during the yacht’s sale, reinforcing its stance of compliance with the law.
As legal proceedings unfold, Browne is determined to combat the allegations head-on, promising to fight this matter “tooth and nail.” The Prime Minister’s legal team is poised to take appropriate action to safeguard the integrity of his office and the interests of Antigua and Barbuda. Given its potential impact on the nation’s reputation and financial future, the developments in this case will undoubtedly be closely monitored.
