Over 1,500 teachers from government primary and secondary schools are entering their third consecutive day of strike action today, causing significant disruption to students’ education and exam schedules.
The teachers are advocating for the release of promotional instruments for approximately 70 educators, a promise that the Antigua Union of Teachers states was expected by March 30.
The ongoing strike has left many students unable to participate in their exams, raising concerns for parents and the community regarding the impact on academic progress.
The situation underscores the urgency for a resolution as the students’ assessments hang in the balance.
In response to the strike, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, Lionel Max Hurst, announced that the necessary promotional instruments will be provided to teachers by the end of the day Friday.
Hurst also blamed operators within the Ministry of Education for being slow in providing these letters.
The government is hopeful that this action will help bring an end to the strike and allow students to resume their exams without further interruptions.
As the situation develops, the focus remains on finding common ground to resolve the ongoing dispute and to ensure a stable educational environment for both teachers and students.

People are selfish! Yes children need their education BUT for too long teachers have done SO MUCH with SO Little that parents take them for granted! Extra classes for Grades 4,6, CXV are conducted at NO ADDITIONAL expense! Writing materials are furnished free when children come without and their parents go to work with weaves, braids, nails and classy outfits! Come on! Be fair and let justice for teachers prevail!
This shows how much the government don’t care about us! Our kids has to suffer like this. Can’t even get a grade
