The Ministry of Education has promised to provide letters of instruction for 70 teachers by the end of the week, putting an end to days of protest.

On Monday, public school teachers nationwide protested because the appointment letters were issued to all eligible educators for upgrades between 2017 and 2022.

They returned to their classrooms yesterday following the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (ABUT) decision to end its industrial action.

The union officially informed its members that their requests had been met, prompting teachers to resume their responsibilities on Friday morning.

Clare Browne, the Director of Education, expressed appreciation to all principals who upheld regular school hours during the industrial action.

  1. I hope the demands are kept. Sad that students had to turn up to school during EXAM WEEK and not do any exams. But the government wouldn’t truly care about that right.

  2. Teachers’ demands met! Tantrums halted! Teachers return to classrooms!
Is this a cause for celebration or cause for serious concern by parents/guardians? Can they feel comfortable entrusting their children to the likes of this union-driven, politically motivated, disgraceful bunch of employees who show nothing but sheer contempt for the safety, development and general welfare for which they are paid comparatively good salaries to ensure. Look at the very headline of this article!
Clearly the writer of this article did not LEARN even the basics of English grammar, subject/verb agreement. As the adage reminds us, ‘Nothing is taught until and unless it is learned.” Seems that our so’called public-school teachers owe significant sums to the taxpayers of this country.

  8. Teachers, kudos to you for standing up for your rights and don’t pay any attention to the nay sayers and critics because who feels it knows it!! Lord knows some teachers in the USA wish they had a union that would support them in a strike but instead they suffer and take a lot of nonsense just to earn a living.
