The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda says it has become aware that individuals are soliciting donations under false pretenses, claiming to represent charities of community causes that do not exist.
Antigua.news spoke exclusively to the parents of Chantel Crump, who informed us that people were soliciting money on behalf of the family without their knowledge
Following the article’s widespread circulation, the police responded under Antigua.news Facebook post.
They said that while many genuine organizations do vital work in our communities, scammers exploit public goodwill to collect money for personal gain. According to the police, these actions not only take advantage of kind-hearted people but also undermine trust in legitimate causes.
Obtaining chattel, money, or valuable security under false pretences is an Offence in accordance with section 27 of the Larceny Act, Cap 241 of the Laws of Antigua and Barbuda, they wrote.
Members of the public are kindly asked to desist from this unlawful practice; failure to comply will result in the appropriate action being taken.
