Cannabis Plant
The Cabinet-appointed Committee charged with assessing the societal effects of marijuana following its decriminalization is currently in the data-gathering phase, with plans to complete its work by the end of July. The Committee, led by Dr. Kwasi K. Tonge, a senior researcher at the UWI Five Islands Campus, is utilizing surveys and focus group discussions to gauge public perception regarding marijuana use.
This research aims to include a diverse range of voices from the community, gathering insights from the general public, students, medical professionals, educators, members of the Rastafarian community, and other organized groups. Dr. Tonge has indicated that the Committee plans to collect data from approximately ten percent of the population to ensure a comprehensive understanding that will inform their final report to the Cabinet.
The Committee has expressed gratitude to those who have already participated in the survey and emphasizes the importance of ongoing public input. They highlight that understanding the public’s viewpoint is crucial to the discourse surrounding marijuana use and the formulation of policies.
A survey link and QR code have been published for members of the public to access and contribute to the ongoing research. This initiative comes in response to growing public concern regarding the consequences of marijuana decriminalization, particularly fears that it may have led to an unintended rise in usage rates among the population.
As the Committee continues its work, it hopes to provide transparent and well-informed recommendations that reflect the collective insights of the community.
I hope they realize that if has caused more harm than its intended cause. A lot more young ppl on road losing their noodle. Sad
Marijuana use alone does not cause anyone to “lose their noodle”. Underlying mental health conditions do. Lasing Marijuana with harmful drugs does. Drinking alcohol and smoking Marijuana does. Too much of any good thing is not good…be it food or Marijuana or anything else.
I hope this study results will be available sooner rather than later
