The government has initiated a study to examine the impact of marijuana use on young people in the country.
The Cabinet has formed a seven-member Commission to conduct an independent and comprehensive research study on the extent of marijuana use among the youth and its potential influence on their social behavior.
The commission, chaired by Dr. Kwasi Tonge, includes members from various backgrounds such as law enforcement, youth intervention, and psychiatry.
The Cabinet recently met with three commission members to receive an interim report on their research methodology and initial findings.
The study aims to consider the changes in the law related to marijuana possession and cultivation, which were implemented three years ago.
The commission will use scientific methods and ensure confidentiality to determine if there has been an increase in marijuana experimentation among young people.
Bishop Charlesworth Browne, a member of the commission, highlighted the need for thorough scientific research to understand the potential correlation between marijuana use and anti-social behavior in young individuals.
The commission is expected to complete its work by the end of the year.
