The United Taxi Association has raised alarms about unregistered drivers operating at the V.C. Bird International Airport, offering rides for hire and significantly affecting the livelihoods of registered taxi operators.

These drivers, using vehicles with “A” and “C” plates, have not only reduced earnings for licensed taxi drivers but have also posed security threats to passengers.

During a recent Cabinet meeting, the importance of enforcing stricter regulations to curtail this practice was addressed.

The Cabinet has pledged to work closely with airport authorities to implement measures aimed at safeguarding both taxi drivers and travelers, especially solo female travelers who particularly rely on safe transportation options.

The United Taxi Association highlighted that the safety of passengers is paramount, which is essential for the sustained growth and success of the tourism industry in Antigua and Barbuda.

They expressed concerns that unregulated transportation could deter visitors who prioritize their safety while traveling.

This proactive stance taken by the Cabinet reflects a commitment to protecting the interests of registered taxi drivers and enhancing the overall travel experience for those visiting the island.

  1. Every body is stepping on everybody else’s toes. That’s been going on in Antigua long long time. Bad mine we call it here or under mining. We see some people doing well and we want to cross them and benefit from their hard work. It’s a hustle, at the same time though every mouth shall be fed
