Antigua & Barbuda’s Zonique Charles made headlines at the 2025 Carifta Games held in Trinidad & Tobago, showcasing her talent and determination by winning the gold medal in the U-17 javelin event.
Charles achieved a remarkable personal best throw of 46.29 meters in her fifth attempt, besting all her competitors and leaving a significant mark on the competition.

At just 15 years old, Charles has demonstrated exceptional skill and promise, particularly after a notable improvement from her 4th place finish at last year’s games. A dedicated athlete, she hones her skills as a student at the Sir Novelle Richards Academy, which has produced numerous talented sportsmen and women.
This victory adds to the growing medal tally for the Antigua & Barbuda team at the Carifta Games.

Following Charles’s gold-winning performance, the team also celebrated Tyra Fenton’s impressive gold in the Girls U-17 400m event. Currently, Antigua & Barbuda boasts a total of four medals in the tournament—two golds, a silver medal won by Geolyna Dowdy in the Girls U-20 100m, and a bronze earned by Ranique Richards in the Girls U-17 shot put.

As the games continue, anticipation builds around the performances of these young athletes, who are setting the stage for future success in Caribbean athletics.
The success of Charles and her teammates highlights the depth of talent emerging from Antigua & Barbuda, promising a bright future for the nation’s sporting ambitions.
