Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne continues to express unwavering confidence despite allegations related to the controversial sale of the Alfa Nero superyacht.

Over the holiday weekend, the online publication wiredji.com ignited a fresh wave of accusations, labeling Browne as corrupt and questioning his integrity on various fronts.

Hours after the publication, the website could not be reached; obviously, to guard against a lawsuit.

Despite the serious nature of these claims, Browne remains resolute, dismissing them as unfounded fabrications orchestrated by his political opponents, in collaboration with the Russian lady, Yulia, who is claiming ownership of the yacht.

Browne’s comments reflect a broader concern about the rise of misinformation in the political arena, particularly via untrustworthy pop-up websites.

He pointed out that adversaries eager to tarnish his reputation and distort the facts surrounding government actions often leverage such platforms.

“These allegations are a form of reckless desperation,” Browne stated in an interview with Antigua.news, calling for the retracting of the “libelous” accusations being circulated.

He said Yulia, the investigator, attorney Martin De Luca, Observer Radio, and certain UPP officials will all be sued.

The Alfa Nero issue has become a topic of intense debate, with critics alleging wrongdoing related to the yacht’s sale and the implications for local governance.

However, Browne stands firm in his defense, asserting that he has acted in the best interests of the nation and has nothing to hide.

He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in leadership while maintaining that baseless attacks would not affect him.

As the Prime Minister took time off during the holidays to travel abroad with his family, he reflected on the nature of public discourse and the challenges of political life.

He proclaimed – “I am a happy man”.

“I’m unbothered by the vitriol directed my way,” Browne asserted, conveying a sense of contentment and assurance despite ongoing criticism.

He sympathizes with those who thrive on negativity, declaring, “While they hate, lie, and peddle propaganda, I will continue to fight unrelentingly to improve the living standards of our people, which is his primary role as a public servant.

He emphasized that he pledged to the people of Antigua and Barbuda to lead them with integrity, an ideal to which he is totally committed.

In addition, Browne said, despite the negativity and falsehoods spread by my detractors, he strives to lead a healthy and balanced life.

“I am fortunate to have the unwavering support of my beautiful family. I continue to instill core values like honesty and respect in my children,  while shielding them from the unjust, vitriolic, envious and hateful rhetoric of my political opponents”, he told Antigua.news

Adding, “the advancements that Antigua and Barbuda has enjoyed over the years speak for themselves. The baseless accusations from my critics will ultimately backfire on them”

“History will serve as the true judge of my tenure as prime minister, and I remain completely at peace, confident in the knowledge that history will judge me,” he continued

Lawyers representing the daughter of a Russian billionaire subject to U.S. sanctions petitioned a federal court for access to financial records of several officials, including the prime minister Browne, his wife, son, the accountant general and the port manager

This request comes amid concerns regarding the government’s actions in seizing and selling the family’s 265-foot (81-meter) megayacht.

Documents produced by the country’s Financial Secretary, indicate that the US$40 million generated from the sale of the Alfa Nero was directed toward covering maintenance costs, services, supplies, and the commission fees of the agency that handled the sale of the super yacht.

Furthermore, around US$29 million of these proceeds were utilized to pay down debt and fulfill essential financial obligations of the government.

This included payments to both domestic and international creditors, such as the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Caribbean Development Bank, Software One Inc., and various judgment debts and land compensation awards.

Surly looks unperturbed to me. But what kind of person is unperturbed about such serious allegations? Well there’s two explanations. It is either a man who is innocent or a man who just don’t care. Or it could be someone who is faking his happiness. We dont know which one it is. For the sake of this country I hope these allegations are just allegations. May we as a people come out stronger for it.

haters hate from all corners. It’s people like you who tarnish and mash up the name of our good country! You know a man is relaxed when he knows he’s in nothing wrong. If all the United Progessive Party and it’s bandwagons have to say was true, well PM would not even wanna be seen by his kids. Let the man live and stop trying to bring down a true leader. Cause after the name of Antigua and Barbuda gets dragged in mud, UPP would not be able to even step in the mud to take it up

It’s not surprising that there are allegations surrounding the sale of high-value assets like the Alfa Nero superyacht; these kinds of situations tend to spark controversy. Prime Minister Browne’s confidence could be seen as a necessary stance to maintain stability, but it’s also crucial for him to address these accusations transparently. Corruption allegations can erode public trust, and how he handles this situation could significantly impact his reputation and political future. In the end, the focus should be on accountability and ensuring that public officials operate with integrity.

No matter how a family argues among itself, it must close ranks and defend against anyone or anything that comes against it collectively or individually. Anything else is traitorous. Keep on taking your people higher my beloved Prime Minister Browne. Your efforts are seen and appreciated.

Luka Johnson don’t let Jealousy kill you. Most of you people are jealous of the PM and his family. Bad mind is a bad disease. Walk a mile in this man’s shoes before you cast aspersions. Black man mentality is that you always have to remain in the field, sweating for a pittance. You are never expected to have a good life, take trips, enjoy the world and live a comfortable life once you skin pigment is black. I feel sad for you. I am black but I will not remain with this poor man mentality. Emancipate yourself from mental slavely. None but ourselves can free our minds (Bob Marley). Now Luka Johnson get your black AHHSEEE off the phone or computer and go repent.
