The Fire Department is investigating the cause of a major explosion at a home in Hodges Bay on Saturday morning.
There was extensive damage to the home, as parts of the roof were blown off and landed on nearby properties.

The explosion also resulted in a fire at the home, which was later extinguished by firefighters who were quickly on the scene.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the occupants of the home had all been away at the time of the incident.
Fire Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivian Parker, says this was the first time the brigade was responding to an explosion of this magnitude at a home.

The house, which has been a landmark in the area for years, was insured.
Happy no one is hurt. I always hate these gas stoves. Bring me back to coleport. To lose a home by any means now in this era is not something anybody wants. Hopefully they are insured.
Veronica you seem to know about the explosion. I haven’t seen what caused it yet. Your neighbour’s? So technically you are saying a gas cylinder exploded? Oh waw+
Was about to ask her about it….. thanks tho. But everyone should be aware that you don’t keep gas bottles inside especially in a wall house
Wow that’s so sad. Sorry for your loss
Now that is major stuff, if it was a wooden structure it would have been on the ground. And any inhabitants at the time would have been.. moving right along. Thank God no one was home. Some times being home is not the safest place to be..
Good thing the house was injured. And thank God nobody was home. Im
Can I ask a question? Does the government source people that goes through these traumas? Or they fight on their own? I’m very sure that the insurance will not come through right now
I am not in Antigua, however, I experienced this many years ago. The insurance company sent inspectors in the first instance, then agreed to pay for temporary accommodation until the property was repaired. This was done within 24hours.
Hopefully, this will happen for this unfortunate family.
Thank goodness no lives were lost.
