Gaston Browne, leader of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) and Prime Minister, revealed plans to mobilize past Labour Queens and former contestants within the party and the government.

This initiative aims to create a robust entity that will seek opportunities for its members, enhancing their roles in society and governance.

To facilitate this empowerment, Browne announced the organization of a forum where past queens and contestants will come together to discuss the formation of an impactful group aimed at fostering their development.

He also mentioned plans to further institutionalize the Labour Party Queen Pageant, ensuring the continuity of this tradition.

This man is a genius. Women have been very absent in politics and political leadership throughout the entire world, and it is a very troubling situation that almost all leaders are trying to reverse. It is the opportune time to change this status quo. Thanks to Prime Minister Browne for his leadership and wisdom.

Several countries have indeed made strides toward increasing female representation in political leadership. Nations like Rwanda, Sweden, Finland, and Norway are known for their higher percentages of women in government roles. Rwanda, for example, has one of the highest proportions of female legislators in the world. Other countries, such as New Zealand and Canada, have also seen significant progress in recent years. Overall, while there’s still a long way to go, many countries are actively working toward gender parity in leadership roles.
Say what you want to say, this is meaningful leadership. How can anyone come up against this unless they hate women? Stop hating Gaston Browne and start loving his actions.

I’m happy that someone is taking you guys seriously. Sometimes even the evening gowns and the nakedness surprises me. You cannot gain respect by parading your body in skimpy bathing suits in the name of pageantry

Whilst I applaud the initiative of including more women in government roles, I am uncertain whether a beauty queen contestant is the right calibre of woman.

Do they have the requisite qualifications and experience to enhance decision making? That they are supporters of the government should not be the only criteria.

There are a host of suitably qualified women in various role in Antigua who might be better suited.

Going forward the competition needs to add an educational component to prepare these girls for such roles.
