The head of the CARICOM Observer Mission, Ian Hughes, praised the conduct of the recent general elections in Trinidad and Tobago, which took place on April 24.
The elections were won by the United National Congress (UNC), led by Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who will assume the role of Prime Minister for a second term.
Hughes and his 12-member team conducted their observations in Port of Spain and reported that the polls were orderly, with no significant incidents.
They noted that polling stations opened on time, were adequately staffed and generally accessible, though some challenges remained for persons with disabilities and the elderly.
Voters experienced minimal wait times, and the voting process proceeded peacefully, supported by sufficient security.
The preliminary report commended the professionalism of polling officials and the effectiveness of the elections authority in ensuring a smooth voting experience.
Hope things go well when it’s our time too and the winner wins. You know sometimes it’s the other way around
Good job.
