Horse Racing Set for a Grand Comeback in Antigua and Barbuda

Horse racing is on the brink of a significant revival in Antigua and Barbuda, promising a new era of excitement with an increase in races, more horses, and a well-organized betting framework.

This resurgence follows the resolution of legal disputes over the lease for the Antigua Turf Club, the traditional venue for such events.

The Cabinet has engaged five individuals interested in redeveloping the Turf Club, signaling a readiness for enhancement at the site.

Reports indicate that a foreign investor from the US Virgin Islands, primarily a casino operator, has committed to channeling fifteen percent of all casino profits back into the Turf Club. In addition, they plan to invest five million US dollars to upgrade the facility immediately.

Alongside the development efforts, plans are underway to accommodate eighty horses and create over fifty job opportunities for the local population.

This partnership is also set to foster connections with other Caribbean turf clubs, promoting a network for off-track betting and facilitating the movement of horses across borders to enhance competition.

With an anticipated influx of seven hundred and fifty thousand cruise tourists visiting Antigua and Barbuda in the upcoming year, the investor group forecasts a thriving operation that will attract both locals and visitors alike, revitalizing the local horse racing scene.
