Fort Barrington
In a promising update for the Chukka Caribbean Adventures project, Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez has announced that the first phase of the initiative is set to be completed by the end of this year.
The project, which has been in the planning stages for three years, aims to transform the historic Fort Barrington on Goat Hill into a vibrant entertainment and amusement center.
Minister Fernandez confirmed that progress is being made, stating, “That is still on. As a matter of fact, they were here last week, and we had meetings with them. Everything is set.”
He acknowledged that initial delays occurred due to discrepancies in measurements taken at high and low tides, which affected the planning process. With these issues resolved, construction is slated to start soon, and the first part of the project is expected to open by November or December of this year.
Chukka Caribbean Adventures, renowned as the Caribbean’s largest nature-adventure tour operator, has been a significant player in the region’s tourism sector for over 35 years.
The Jamaican company has successfully developed various tourism sites across Barbados, Jamaica, and other Caribbean islands. The Goat Hill site, located next to the Royalton Resort, attracts both locals and tourists who appreciate its natural beauty and historical significance.
The development will see an investment of up to US$5 million to enhance the historical aspects of the site while also improving access to its natural features, including a beach and nearby caves.
This project promises to offer new opportunities for adventure and exploration, ultimately enriching the area’s visitors’ experience.
As the opening date approaches, excitement builds for what Chukka Caribbean Adventures has in store at Fort Barrington, making it a focal point for both tourism and community engagement in the region.
