Construction of Belmont Housing Project Expected to Begin Late this Year

Preparations are underway for the new housing development in Belmont.

With these plans ongoing, construction of the first set of homes is expected to begin late October, November.

Housing Minister Maria Browne gave the update.

CHAPA will be the one spearheading the housing over there and they’re beginning their layout, their preliminary layout, and we’ll make that public within a matter of weeks but I’ve got to tell you, a lot of people are excited about it, because it’s a lovely area, the proximity to town and everything that is happening, it’s wonderful.

“We’re looking at possibly having the parcellation done by late September, everything being equal by late September and then we can possibly start construction going in October, November,” Browne said.

Priority will be given to persons within the St. Johns City South constituency, but Minister Browne is encouraging interested persons outside of that jurisdiction to sign up as there are available plots.

Recently, Parliamentary Representative Sir Steadroy Benjamin announced a substantial allocation of 15 acres of land designated for housing development, aimed at benefiting around 100 families in the community.

This decision follows the Cabinet’s approval and will enhance 40 parcels previously earmarked for housing initiatives.

The new project will feature two and three-bedroom homes specifically designed for working-class families.
