VIDEO STORY: Behind the Badge | Officer Iveen Miller Battles the Media Storm for Transparency in Law Enforcement

Constable Iveen Miller who works with the Strategic Communications Department of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, has taken on a new role in public relations for the local police department, focusing on enhancing communication with the media to keep the public informed about crime-fighting efforts.

However, she faces challenges, particularly when police officers share misinformation, which complicates the flow of accurate information to reporters.

This situation has the potential to undermine trust among the public, police, and media.

She spoke to Antigua.news Shermain Bique-Charles on the sidelines of a media workshop on Wednesday.

  2. Prime example of lack of transparency here. This officer focused on misinformation leaked by unauthorized officers, but in my humble opinion, does little to address the lack of transparency and providing timely and accurate information. Also not adequately addressed is how they will go about rectifying those issue going forward.

  3. Since when she’s PRO? By the way, how is it that information is digging out without proper authorization. Meanwhile. Why is it that the police takes so long to send out information? I mean look at the case the other day with Oliver. While the police was on the scene where he was found that’s when the media post that he was missing. There’s absolutely no transparency between the police, the media and the public. What’s the talk about that?

    • Dear Editor,

An Inside CIRCULAR COMMUNICATION Is Able to ALERT ALL Police Personnel To DIRECT ANY Media INQUIRIES To ? THE DEPT. Of STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS (? Correct Nomenclature)!!

……. Then A Publicly-Worded Permission Provided by the Chief of Police (to Media Personnel) requesting Them to Quote the NAME and POSITION of The Police Personnel providing The Information which is being transmitted by The Respective Media To The Public ….

……. Maybe THESE Actions Could Serve to Prevent Media Personnel putting THEIR OWN SPIN on the Subject Matter (being Reported on) and/or Unauthorized Police Personnel Speaking on Issues about Which they have No Authority to Speak ….

……. THEN as Time moves on ….. And Standards Begin to Fall In Place ….. The CREDIBILITY ISSUE May Slowly Be Resolved ……

…….. Just THINKING Out Loud ….. Maybe ALL THIS is Already Taken Care Of …..

  6. I can point a few finger as to what media house she’s talking about. As a follower of this media house and as a person who’ve been hearing the voice of Shermain Bique-Charles since on observer, I feel that Antigua.news has been doing a really great job. Though there’s times that they post a lil wrong thing here and there there’s media houses out there that never post anything right. I suggest they grab things and run with them. So hats off to the media house and every person on the amazing team. And Officer Miller, do your job and not let these media houses get the best of you, one day they will allow the police to do their jobs

  8. I now understand why these media houses always mixing people up. One time is one story, and another time is something else. Or one media house saying ABC and another saying ACB. mix up stories in the media field

  9. I love this lady’s voice. The police woman. She wasn’t afraid to say media people getting wrong info from inside the force. Nothing stays silence and secret in ANtigua. Get with it.
