Antiguan Doctor graduates with master’s degree

The accolades just keep on rolling in for Dr. Shivon Belle-Jarvis as the Medical Director of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre earned her master’s degree in public health.

Dr. Jarvis on Wednesday graduated from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Members of her family including her husband, children and mother were in attendance to celebrate this milestone academic achievement.

“Elated, daunted, proud, fearful, and thankful, are just a few words that express how I feel at this moment. The most common question I have received to date when persons asked where I was studying was ” Harvard Harvard?  Harvard in Boston?” I was shocked wondering how many Harvard’s there were…Then I asked myself why not Harvard?

“I am enough, have what it takes, and have been through enough. Although attending this noble institution was not on my bucket/wish list, it was in God’s script for my life. My children witnessed their mom working hard, that for me, priceless. We must always seek to inspire the next generation,” Dr. Belle-Jarvis posted to on social media.

She went on to thank her husband, family, friends and all who prayed for her along the journey.

“What’s next, not sure, God continues to write my story. I do know however that I must be an agent of change and apply that which I have learnt. It’s time for a revolution! My story continues. See you at the next chapter.  What a birthday gift.  Level 41 unlocked. Thanks God,” she added.

Dr. Belle-Jarvis, an accomplished pediatric consultant and public health advocate.

She holds a Doctor of Medicine in Pediatrics from the University of the West Indies, an MSc in Neonatology with Merit from the University of Southampton.

She was appointed the Medical Director at the SLBMC earlier this year.
