The Hurricane season officially begins on June 01 and ends on November 30, although weather patterns can be experienced outside of the season.
Mr. Sherrod James, the Director of NODS, along with Deputy Director Mr. Craig Cole, to provide an update on the nation’s readiness for the upcoming hurricane season at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.
Mr. James informed the Cabinet that the Shelters List has already been published and that Local Directors are currently undergoing training to effectively manage these shelters.
In addition, the Cabinet was alerted to the necessity of cleaning drains, waterways, and ponds to mitigate flooding and other risks prior to the start of the season.
In response, they promptly approved the assignment of two long-boom excavators to NODS to facilitate these essential clean-up efforts.
Recognizing the importance of effective communication during emergencies, the Cabinet also allocated funding for the immediate enhancement of NODS’s communication capabilities.
As the hurricane season approaches, these proactive measures reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of the community.
Speaking of Hurricanes, we still await acountability where some funds allocated to Barbuda is concerned
Hurricane prepardness is important. What is more important is ensuring we reach everyone. Including the vulnerable living in places people hardly want to traverse
Well the hurricane season starts on Sunday. That is crazy. Time flies!
Good to see they’re actually getting ahead of things this year. Hope those new shelters come through before anything serious hits.
Only now they talking about shelters and clean-up? Hurricane season starts in days. Everything last minute with this government.
Remember a shelter should be the last resort. Don’t abandon your parents/grandparents at shelter while you home cozy with your family.
Be kind to our elders

Stone what did anybody do to Barbudans? These people are brazen. They got help and instead complained. They need to be left in Barbuda.
