“We are friends of all” – Foreign Affairs speaks on US/China dispute

Hon. E.P. Chet Greene

While tensions continue to rise between the US and China, Antigua and Barbuda remains an ally of both.

Foreign Affairs Minister EP Chet Greene reaffirmed the country’s stance.

“Our foreign policy allows us the freedom of engagement. We are friends of all, enemies of none. We have a responsibility to the people of this country to ensure that Antigua has its best interests is protected, preserved and promoted. So, we maintain good relations with the United States of America, very good relations.

“Our embassy in Washington continues on a daily basis to ensure that the relations remain at optimal levels. Where the Chinese are concerned, we still proclaim China as our number one development partner and so to the extent that we have the United States as our major trading partner, number one trading partner, and China our number one development partner, I think we are enjoying the best of both worlds,” Greene said.

He added, that while the relationship between the US and other countries around the world may be strained, Antigua and Barbuda continues to build on those ties.

“Well, I mean, it’s a very, very good relationship with the United States of America. Some recent developments would suggest that we have to watch, monitor, and certainly continue to maintain our best interests but there’s nothing to suggest that there’s anything untoward with our relationship,” Greene mentioned.

  2. I mean, they always say don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Chet has no choice by the way. US and China are like the parent country to Antigua. If he lose one Antigua is unbalanced

  3. At the end of the day. Why can’t all these countries get along. This is like a chain and each one need one. What’s the matter?

    • Yes Antigua is caught in the middle of these two powerhouses. So we cant really choose a side because we need them both
