DOMINICA: 74-year-old woman commits suicide

An elderly woman in the neighboring island of Dominica has apparently committed suicide.

Law enforcement there said the act took place in Castle Comfort. According to police reports, CID investigators arrived at the Williams home at 7:57 a.m. after a suicide was reported.

Upon arrival, they discovered Rosemary Williams, a 74-year-old resident, with a bed sheet around her neck that was tied to the upper part of her bedpost in her bedroom.

Further details indicated that she appeared to be deceased, and the District Medical Doctor officially pronounced her dead.

Inspector Fixton Henderson has handled the scene, and so far, there has been no evidence of foul play.

An autopsy of the deceased will take place, followed by a coroner’s inquest.

  2. That’s very fishy. Why would a woman that age kill herself? Usually at that age these people at peace with their circumstances. I hope there is a thorough investigation before we can say it’s suicide. Not making sense.

    • I pray there is a thorough investigation. This was a very quiet and nice nurse, and I just cannot accept she would do such a thing to herself. To me nurse Williams did not have the capacity to do that to herself.

  3. This is devastating. We cannot afford to ignore the mental health crisis affecting our nation, especially our vulnerable elderly. What concrete steps are being taken to address this? We need more robust national strategies for suicide prevention, better integration of mental health services into primary care, and increased community outreach programs specifically targeting older adults. Our elders deserve better.

  6. Not saying this is what happened in this case but check into the family. Sometimes some of them have financial problems and can’t wait for their inheritance. Others are just spiteful . Check to see who gains the most from this elder’s passing. Sometimes they pay others to commit the act and make it look like a suicide. Authorities need to look under every stone abd don’t drop no case.
