A royal presence brought added significance to Antigua and Barbuda’s Independence Day celebrations on Sunday as King Charles III and Queen Camilla joined residents, religious leaders and government officials for a special interfaith service ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026.

The service, held at the St. John’s Pentecostal Church – House of Restoration Ministries, brought together representatives of the religious community and members of the public for an occasion centred on prayer, reflection and unity.

The gathering was hosted by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who welcomed Their Majesties as Antigua and Barbuda marked its 45th anniversary of Independence while preparing to host leaders and representatives from across the Commonwealth.

The service formed part of the programme of activities surrounding CHOGM 2026, which runs from November 1 to 4 in St. John’s.

The royal couple’s attendance also highlighted the Commonwealth's shared connections and the role of faith and community in bringing people together across different nations and cultures.
