A St. John’s magistrate has sentenced Sheldon Sambury, a Trinidad and Tobago national currently residing in Bendals, to two years and six months. Sambury, a 50-year-old farmer and member of the Boboshanti Tribe, pleaded guilty to charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm.
In addition to the firearm charge, he was sentenced to one year in prison for the illegal possession of eight rounds of matching ammunition. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Upon his arrest, Sambury admitted to police that the firearm, a Smith and Wesson .357, along with the corresponding ammunition, belonged to him. He expressed that the gun was intended for his protection, citing a previous robbery as the reason for his actions.
Sambury’s case highlights ongoing concerns regarding firearm possession and public safety in the region.
that’s how it goes bro
you apply for a license they refuse to give you they catch you with a gun they jail you. do jow does one protect one’s self?
Let the Amnesty slide as if yall can actually hide guns now you’re facing the difficult charges
So, he gets 2.5 years concurrently for the gun and ammo. It’s always a tricky one when someone claims it’s for ‘protection’ – on one hand, you get it, but on the other, it’s a slippery slope. The police are going to catch you if you’re carrying illegally. It’s just how it is.
People was coming and thief the man weed so he needed the gun to protect himself
