Work on All Saints Road to Begin Later this Year

As road work continues across the island, one major highway is expected to be resurfaced later this year.

According to the Minister Responsible for the street rehabilitation program Maria Browne, discussions are underway to assess the new design of the road.

“As time has changed, we have noticed that there is a change in climate, so in road design and preparation in the past, you will look at past events. However, going forward, we have to look at climate projections and so we have to factor that into the road design.

“So we’re now utilising greater expertise in an effort to get the job done correctly and once and for all and so that being the case, whereas roads were designed for a one-in-twenty event, which is a 5% chance of an event happening per year, or a one-in-fifty, a 2% chance of something happening within a year, we’re now looking at climate change, the effects of climate change, factoring those projections of storms, greater downpours, and even earthquakes and things of the sort that come under climate change going forward as we factor in the design for All Saints Road,” Browne explained.

“So, all that being said, we are still in the design phases and we’re still engaging contractors, large contractors, because we do need more machines, more expertise going forward, and also a transfer of knowledge that would be exceptional as we seek to address All Saints Road. So, we’re looking at, at least starting by the last quarter of this year, 2025,” she added.

Already interested has been shown by C.O. Williams and other large firms from across the region but according to the minister nothing has been finalized.

Repairs would be funded through the $100 million dollar loan and would stretch from the public market all the way to English Harbour.
