Hundreds of Grade 6 students and their nervous parents will on Friday learn their fate as the National Grade Assessment results is scheduled to be released.
As is customary, the top Education officials will hold a press conference where they will share specific data on the four core subject areas, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and English and other relevant data like the top overall student, the top government student, the school with the most entries in the top 100 and the government school with the most top 100 entries.
Eager students and their parents will flock to the respective schools to get a full breakdown of their results and more so hear where which secondary school they will be attending. All students will be classed in four levels with Level 1 being the highest.
Last year, the Villa Primary School boasted the top government student as Oskeya Toney finished 11th overall in the island but Elyze Henry of Minoah Magnet took the overall top spot.
Wishing strength to all the students and families waiting on results, remember, one test doesn’t define your worth or your future.
Is it necessary to really have these exams? I am saying this because, as a young person who just left school, these exams make you feel as if you are in a competition. School and education should never make someone feel that way. Too much pressure
Why are we even having these assessments anyway? Does it really make sense
This day is so much more than just numbers on a paper, it’s the start of a new chapter for our children. Whether they’re in the top 10 or not, they’ve all crossed a major milestone.
I hope the Ministry continues to support students who didn’t make Level 1. Placement isn’t the end of the story—it’s just the beginning, and all our children deserve support.
