Education Minister Daryll Matthew defends merger of Glanvilles Secondary and Pares Secondary

Education Minister Daryll Matthew

Minister for Education, Daryll Matthew, recently addressed Cabinet on Wednesday, with what they say is promising news regarding the merger of Glanvilles Secondary School and Pares Secondary School.

He told his Cabinet colleagues that the decision has been met with enthusiastic support from local communities, highlighting a collective commitment to enhancing educational opportunities.

In a bid to ensure transparency and public engagement throughout the merger process, the Ministry has announced a series of initiatives aimed at keeping stakeholders informed.

A key event, a Town Hall Meeting, is scheduled for next Monday at Glanvilles Secondary School. At this meeting, Ministry technicians will provide comprehensive details about the merger process, allowing community members to voice their concerns and ask questions.

A noteworthy element of this transition is the planned transformation of Glanvilles Secondary School into a specialized School of Agriculture. This move is in line with national priorities focused on skills development, food security, and fostering agricultural innovation.

Minister Matthew emphasized the importance of this initiative in preparing students for future challenges in a changing job market.

As preparations for the September 2025 merger progress, assessment teams have been actively evaluating the infrastructure of both schools.

Their goal is to identify necessary upgrades to ensure that the newly merged institution provides a safe and welcoming environment for all students.

The Cabinet’s official announcement last week highlighted how the merger aligns with the Government’s overarching strategy to develop a sustainable and high-quality educational system.

The vision is clear: to enhance learning outcomes, optimize resources, and promote equity, ensuring that every student has the necessary tools and support to excel academically and socially.
