In a historic moment for youth representation, 13-year-old Khadalia Joseph has been sworn in as the youngest member ever of the National Youth Parliament Association of Antigua and Barbuda.

Khadalia, who represents Barbuda as an independent member, was selected by her peers during the May sitting of the Barbuda Youth Council.

The official oath-taking ceremony took place on Thursday, where Khadalia was joined by five other new youth parliamentarians, marking a significant step forward for youth involvement in governance.

During the inaugural session, Youth Parliament Speaker Jessica Zouetr praised Joseph’s impactful performance, particularly during discussions on pressing issues such as substance abuse among minors.

“We want to especially recognize Khadalia Joseph, who is a 13-year-old who joined us from Barbuda… she was selected among her members to represent Barbuda, and I think that she did an amazing job here this morning,” Zouetr remarked.

Khadalia’s participation signifies a growing commitment to empowering young voices in the political landscape of Antigua and Barbuda, as well as addressing critical issues facing the youth today.

Her achievement is not only a milestone for her, but also an inspiring example for other young people in the region.
