Vybz Kartel, a man referred to as Jamaica’s Dancehall King, is set to headline the 25th edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) in Dominica.

After spending 13 years in prison, Adidja Azim Palmer, better known as Vybz Kartel, is making his return to the global music scene.

His troubles began back in September 2011, when he was arrested for cannabis possession, which then escalated to a murder charge.

Following a lengthy 64-day trial—the longest in Jamaican history—Kartel and his co-defendants, Kahira Jones, Andre St. John, and fellow dancehall artist Shawn Storm, were found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Despite these challenges, Kartel always held onto hope for a comeback.

Scheduled for October 24 to 26, 2025, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Roseau, the festival promises a vibrant celebration of Creole music, culture, and community.

Under the theme “Global Echoes of the Nature Island: Celebrating 25 Years of Creole Music, Magic, and Memories,” the festival will showcase a diverse lineup that includes both regional icons and international stars, culminating in a spectacular tribute to the evolution of Creole genres.

The inaugural night, “Fire & Foundation” on October 24, will kick off with performances from renowned groups such as Burning Flames and Steel Pulse. Vybz Kartel will grace the stage on the second night, “Creole Carnival,” alongside other prominent Caribbean artists like Spice and Kes The Band, bringing his unique flair to the festivities.

“This year’s festival is a testament to the rich musical heritage of the Caribbean and the enduring influence of Creole rhythms,” said Marva Williams, CEO of the Discover Dominica Authority. “We are excited to highlight stars like Vybz Kartel, whose contributions to the genre have been profound.

The Grand Finale on October 26 will feature not only Vybz Kartel but also a lineup that includes international sensations like Tiwa Savage and Bunji Garlin, promising an unforgettable experience for fans.
