Today is the 5th day that rescue efforts in central Texas are continuing as relentless rainfall caused the Guadalupe River to overflow, resulting in devastating floods that swept through homes and summer camps, claiming over 100 lives.
Currently, the death toll has reached at least 104, including 27 children and counselors from Camp Mystic, a well-known Christian girls’ camp in Kerr County, which was hit hardest starting July 4. In Kerr County, the fatalities include 56 adults and 28 children, with ten campers and one counselor still unaccounted for.
The flooding struck during the early hours, with the Guadalupe River rising more than 26 feet in under an hour, as reported by Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. The torrential rain has continued, maintaining a flood risk that affects numerous communities in central Texas in the days that followed.
As emergency responders and volunteers worked tirelessly to locate survivors, the death toll continued to rise. Many families across the nation watched with dread as the situation at Camp Mystic grew more dire.
Images show the camp’s bunks covered in mud, personal belongings scattered everywhere, and a building missing an entire wall.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has made a commitment to ensure that every missing person is found.
