Parliament is set to convene within the next two weeks

Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda

Parliament is set to convene within the next two weeks, with a full agenda that focuses on several pivotal issues that could significantly impact many citizens.

Among the notable items on the schedule is a resolution aimed at expunging criminal records for individuals convicted of possessing small amounts of cannabis, specifically under 15 grams.

This initiative is designed to provide second chances and clear the paths of those affected by previous convictions related to minor cannabis offenses, alongside granting pardons to individuals impacted by these laws.

In alignment with restorative justice goals, lawmakers will also discuss a resolution focused on expunging records for individuals convicted under the Public Health Amendment Act during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This initiative is part of a broader movement to address injustices exacerbated by the health crisis and promote fairness within the legal system.

Additionally, a debate will ensue regarding the government’s support for the Social Security Scheme’s investment in the redevelopment of the Jolly Beach Resort.
