Direct flights between St. John’s and Colombia will begin in September 2025, following an agreement between LIAT20 and BlueSea, a Latin American travel company.
This collaboration was announced at a news conference with key officials, including BlueSea’s CEO, Maria Britto Bettini, and Minister of Tourism Charles Fernandez.
The initial plan is to operate weekly charters to Cartagena, with the potential to increase to daily flights as demand grows.
Minister Fernandez emphasized the significance of this service, particularly for Colombian nationals traveling to Colombia for medical treatment.
He noted that many people face difficulties connecting through various airports, especially those without a US visa.
Britto Bettini emphasized her commitment to establishing direct links between Colombia and Antigua and Barbuda, which were interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The charter service will offer a direct, non-stop flight lasting two and a half hours.
ABHTA CEO Colin C. James recognized the potential of this development for expanding tourism from South America to Antigua and Barbuda.
