In Dominica, a reward of $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to the retrieval of illegal firearms or ammunition, with assurances that the identities of informants will be kept confidential.

This is just one of the measures announced by Dominica’s prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, to fight against gun-related violence in the Nature Isle.

To encourage disarmament, the government is also providing a limited amnesty period for individuals who wish to surrender illegal firearms or ammunition without facing prosecution.

“This is a chance for citizens to do the right thing and avoid the full force of the law,” Prime Minister Skerrit emphasized.

To bolster security, surveillance cameras will be installed throughout the country, beginning in the capital, Roseau.

Additional initiatives include heightened foot and mobile patrols in Roseau and surrounding areas.

PM Skerrit delivered a strong message to those engaged in violent activities, stating, “We will find you; we will disarm you, and we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. Dominica is a peaceful nation, and we will not permit our streets to become battlegrounds.”

    • What is a $1,000 reward? No one is going to risk their life and their family’s life to provide information for $1,000. PM Roosevelt Skerrit needs to come again with a better, more substantial reward, like $1,000,000 (one hundred thousand or more).
