Workers Unite for Improved Conditions at ABWU Meeting

Antigua and Barbuda – Shop stewards and members of the Transport Section of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) convened at Freedom Hall today to address pressing challenges facing the sector.

The meeting centered on fostering collaboration and developing collective strategies aimed at enhancing working conditions for all workers involved.

Deputy General Secretary Chester Hughes took the opportunity to emphasize the significance of establishing Health, Safety, and Wellness Committees within the workplace.

In his remarks, he highlighted that these committees are vital not only for protecting workers’ rights but also for promoting a comprehensive approach to wellness. “Prioritizing these committees is essential for ensuring that we create and maintain safe and supportive environments for all workers,” Hughes stated.

Participants shared their experiences and concerns, with many expressing the need for stronger health and safety measures, as well as better support systems to address workplace challenges.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment among attendees to work collaboratively towards actionable solutions, reinforcing the ABWU’s dedication to improving the lives and working conditions of its members.
