After years of discussion, work, and patience for end-of-life services in Antigua and Barbuda, the new Tranquility Park Cemetery was officially dedicated and opened to the public on Thursday.
Located along the Sir Sydney Walling Highway, this expansive 20-acre facility aims to provide a serene and respectful resting place for the deceased, positioning itself as a worthy successor to the historic St. John’s Public Cemetery, which has served the community since the late 1800s.

With several of the country’s cemeteries at full capacity, the government saw it fitting to provide more burial space.
Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph, a key advocate for the cemetery’s establishment, led the dedication ceremony and expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
He envisions Tranquility Park Cemetery not just as a burial ground, but as a holistic development that will enhance the experience for families visiting their loved ones.
“We expect to see ongoing developments on this site, including the creation of a peaceful park area where families can come to reflect and share memories,” he said.
The cemetery is designed with accessibility and maintenance in mind, ensuring that all citizens and residents of Antigua and Barbuda have access to dignified burial options.
Sir Molwyn emphasized that the establishment of Tranquility Park is part of the government’s broader commitment to modernizing end-of-life services, catering to the needs of the community in a thoughtful manner.
The development of Tranquility Park Cemetery will occur in phases, allowing for careful planning and execution.

The Minister for Health described the new burial grounds as a “spiritual haven,” a place intended to provide tranquility and solace. The design promises to be aesthetically pleasing, integrating natural beauty into the landscape to create a serene atmosphere.
With the opening of Tranquility Park, the government aims to ease the burden on families during an emotionally challenging time, while addressing the growing need for well-maintained and respectful burial sites.
As more families turn to this new facility in the coming years, it is poised to stand as a symbol of compassion and care in the community.
