Alesha Baptiste released on $50,000 bail following her arrest on fraud charges
Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason has released a Villa woman on $50,000 bail following her arrest on charges involving more than $200,000 in alleged fraudulent activity.
Alesha Baptiste, 35, faces a total of 22 charges stemming from a fraud scheme that targeted a woman she was helping and reportedly gained access to her account.
The charges span nearly a year of alleged criminal activity, from September 2023 to July 2024, and include attempted larceny of EC$55,548.19, two separate larceny charges totalling EC$269,005, and 19 money laundering charges involving EC$218,566.89.
Baptiste was required to post a $5,000 cash component as part of her bail conditions when she appeared in court yesterday.

WHATTTTT? Are you kidding me/ you actually stole all that money from someone you’re supposed to be helping. If this indeed true, this is pure wickedness. Seems like you can’t trust anyone anymore
women are like that
Wait. So you’re helping someone and steal their money? That is wickedness
Really can’t trust people in these days.
Good help is really jus hard to find these days.
At 3r you are a real busy body. Money has you barzoodie. Waw. Something about women and money. Just something!
With women like that prostitution can’t done, like is safer and cheaper to go that way.
In the world, this happens all the time. There is a worrying trend trend with patients with dementia where their carers steal-their money and jewellery.
Quite a lot of male and female carers are taken to court for this reason and are let out on bail as long as they are not a flight risk and report to the station periodically.
And many of them get non custodial sentences as the prisons are full of murders, rapists, modern day slave traders, violent gang members etc. I am sure that Antiguan jails are full too.
Let the law run its course and trust that people are punished accordingly. These are desperate times when people do what seems right to themselves, No fear of God.
