The Antigua & Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) is preparing to host its annual Youth Congress, which will see over 200 young workers come together on August 20, 2025. This year’s theme is “Adaptability to Ensure Sustainability: Encouraging Entrepreneurship in Youth.”
Blair Rose, President of the ABWU Youth Arm, promises attendees an inspiring and empowering experience that addresses the changing landscape that young workers are facing. “We’re in a period of unprecedented transformation that’s rapidly altering the world of work,” Rose noted.
“Our survival depends on our ability to adapt through retooling, education, and training. Moreover, we need to view entrepreneurship as a pivotal avenue for achieving long-term socio-economic stability.”
The Youth Congress aims to elevate the voices of young workers and enhance their participation in the labor movement.
“Young workers are not merely passive observers; we play an active and vital role in the workplace,” Rose emphasized. “While we may lack extensive experience, we compensate with strong educational backgrounds, fresh perspectives, and a quick learning ability.”
As the countdown to Youth Congress 2025 begins, the Executive of the ABWU Youth Arm recently gathered to evaluate their ongoing initiatives and renew their dedication to empowering youth.
Rose is urging all young workers in Antigua and Barbuda to engage and take ownership of their shared future.
“Our generation is set to work longer than any before us, and it’s crucial that we help shape a workplace that inspires us and brings out our best. This journey starts now.”

Proud to see the Union investing in the next generation. The labor movement must evolve with the times, and youth are the key to that evolution.
I hope the discussions also address workers’ rights in the gig economy and how youth can navigate that precarious space.
Excited to see what comes out from Antigua & Barbuda Workers’ Union 2025.
That’s a lot of young people. I live the idea of exposing them to the work force modalities ahead of entertaining it
