The Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda, in partnership with Yuan Longping High Tech Agricultural Co., Ltd., hosted an educational outreach session at the Greencastle Agricultural Station.
The event, which took place today, focused on promoting improved harvesting techniques and effective post-harvest management specifically for locally grown Bok Choy, also known as Chinese cabbage.
The hands-on session drew a dedicated group of local farmers, who eagerly participated in demonstrations designed to enhance their agricultural practices. Mr. Victor Harris, the Supervisor of Greencastle Station, represented the local management team, ensuring that the event proceeded efficiently and that participants received optimal support.
In total, over twenty individuals benefited from the training. In addition to hands-on learning, each farmer left with four fresh heads of Bok Choy, equipping them with both produce and practical knowledge vital for their ongoing farming efforts.

Looking ahead, the Chinese Embassy and Yuan Longping High Tech Agricultural Co. Ltd. are set to take part in the upcoming Antigua Carnival celebrations, where they will showcase several ongoing agricultural projects and the produce cultivated under the Bilateral Cooperation Project.
This collaboration underscores the commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing food security in the region.

Good initiative, but I hope we’re also promoting indigenous crops and not just focusing on imports like Bok Choy. Let’s balance tradition with innovation.
I’d love to know how these projects fit into a wider national policy for food security. Are we seeing results beyond training sessions?
The Chinese are working really hard. We appreciate the sharing of your knowledge to advance this particular sector
This initiative in Greencastle is a promising sign for the future of agriculture in Antigua and Barbuda. If we can apply these climate-smart and efficient techniques more broadly, it will contribute significantly to our food sovereignty and economic diversification.
