Antigua Sailing week to be enhanced by Ministry of Tourism

The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment proudly announces a fresh vision for yachting in Antigua and Barbuda, enhancing the longstanding tradition of Antigua Sailing Week.

“In collaboration with key stakeholders, we are thrilled to unveil The Antigua Racing Cup, a dynamic new addition to the yachting calendar, scheduled for April 9 – 12,” stated the Ministry.

This event marks the beginning of an exhilarating month of sailing.

The Antigua Racing Cup is tailored for racing enthusiasts who thrive on high-energy, coastal racing.

This four-day competition guarantees thrilling races in optimal conditions—ideal temperatures, steady trade winds, and impressive seas just a stone’s throw from shore.

The event is strategically placed on the calendar to allow teams to compete before heading to their summer sailing engagements. Racers can anticipate expertly designed courses reflecting the exhilarating sailing conditions along the breathtaking southern coast of Antigua, while spectators will be treated to stunning views from land, sea, or air.

Onshore, English Harbour will be alive with activity, featuring local vendors and artisans eager to cater to all appetites, along with numerous bars, restaurants, and beach venues ready to host a variety of nighttime events.

Expect live music, themed parties, and cultural celebrations that showcase the warmth of Antiguan hospitality.

Meanwhile, Antigua Sailing Week will return from April 22 to 26, 2026, adopting its classic point-to-point format with each day’s sailing leading to a different picturesque destination. Participants can anticipate vibrant after-race social events infused with local culture. This year’s event will welcome a variety of boat types and crews, catering to cruisers, rally participants, and bareboat charters. For those keen on competition, additional marks will be laid out for tactical duels and timed courses.

“The Antigua Racing Cup is designed for those with tight schedules who seek a fast-paced and exciting regatta, while Antigua Sailing Week returns to its cruising roots. By offering two distinct events, each with a specific focus, we aim to create a richer and more immersive experience for a diverse audience,” explained Race Manager Jaime Torres.

On the realignment of Antigua Sailing Week and the introduction of The Antigua Racing Cup, Minister of Tourism Charles “Max” Fernandez remarked, “This strategic direction follows extensive consultations with stakeholders at every level, from the local community to key players in the yachting sector. We envision a sailing season in Antigua that caters to both dedicated racers and leisure cruisers, while celebrating our beloved maritime culture.”

April 2026 promises to be a remarkable month for sailing in Antigua and Barbuda. In addition to Antigua Sailing Week and The Antigua Racing Cup, the calendar will also showcase the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, which will feature an exciting Model Boat Race designed for the entire family, highlighting boats crafted by the local yachting community. This eventful month will be filled with unforgettable sailing experiences and festivities that celebrate the rich maritime traditions of our islands.
