Recently, Jacqueline JnoBaptiste, the Director of Nursing at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC), along with Dr. Gail-Ann Fortune, an intensivist, participated in a significant regional workshop focused on pandemic preparedness in critical care.
This event was organized as part of the Pandemic Fund Project for Eastern Caribbean Countries and was supported by renowned organizations including PAHO, the World Bank, FAO, and WHO.

The workshop aimed to identify vulnerabilities within critical care systems that were accentuated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendees collaborated to devise targeted training plans to address these gaps, ensuring that healthcare systems are more robust in the face of future crises.
“This kind of collaboration strengthens our ability to respond in a crisis and, most importantly, improves outcomes for our patients, families, and communities,” the SLBMC.
By engaging in these proactive discussions and initiatives, SLBMC and other key healthcare leaders are working towards a more prepared and resilient healthcare system for all.

The lessons from COVID-19 can’t be ignored. Preparedness isn’t optional, it’s a necessity. Thank you to SLBMC for taking the lead on this.
Workshops like these make a difference. It’s not just about ventilators and beds—it’s about training, strategy, and systems that protect lives.
Kudos to PAHO for organising this workshop.
“The workshop aimed to identify vulnerabilities within critical care systems that were accentuated during the COVID-19 pandemic” and i certainly hope the objective was achieved
