Prime Minister Gaston Browne
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has responded to claims that he is grooming his wife, Maria Bird Browne, to succeed him as leader.
In a letter to the editor published by Antigua.news and several other media outlets, the writer insinuated that Browne, who has a massive following on social media, refuses to promote the work of other ministries; instead, he keeps promoting his wife.
In response, Browne wrote on his social media page that “Envy is sinful: it’s like a cancer that eats the body and soul. While our people are enjoying one of the best carnivals in recent memory, there are those operating in the dark and shadow, planting articles to stir strife”.
He noted, “Kindly note that leaders are chosen by their people, and those who are obsessed with leadership must at least have the integrity and the ability to lead.
My advice: it’s Carnival baby, go have some fun and leave your misery behind, before it destroys you”.

And what if he is, Lester succeeded his father…chupzz….let’s get more topical….talk about the fact that he is distracting you while he multiplies his wealth ….Art of War
I’m all for it. Who better to guide the first female prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda than her husband and best prime minister ever?
PM you do well justifying anything
While I understand the PM might be defending his family, ‘envy’ is a personal emotion, not a political argument. We need a clear, professional response that addresses the public’s concerns about the political succession plan. The focus should be on accountability and governance, not on personal attacks or feelings.
It was a personal Attack on his wife so as a husband he must defend her
PM you are within your rights to defend and protect your queen mir
Gastons back is very broad. He can take criticisms. And he makes fun of it. Im sure these comments just runs off his back like water on a duck.
The Prime Minister should address the concern directly. Calling criticism ‘envy’ sidesteps the issue. Leadership comes with scrutiny, especially when family and politics mix.
If Maria Bird Browne is truly the best person for leadership, let her rise on merit, not proximity. The public deserves open succession planning, not dynastic hints.
