Antigua and Barbuda is making preparations for its participation in Carifesta, the Caribbean’s foremost cultural festival, which will take place in Barbados from August 22 to 31.
The Cultural Department is leading the efforts for the country’s involvement.
Minister of Creative Industries, Daryll Matthew, announced that a team will be present at the event to represent and promote the twin island nation.

He explained that the delegation aims to include between 80 and 90 members, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Antigua and Barbuda to both locals and the wider world.
Additionally, the delegation will include representations from Hell’s Gate Steelband, various arts and crafts from the department, traditional masqueraders, and a culinary spotlight on local delicacies, particularly focusing on lobster.

Out of the 90 I’m sure 50 will friend and company. Just saying. I know how this system works
So proud to see our culture being showcased on such a big stage! Can’t wait to hear Hell’s Gate live again. Represent Antigua and Barbuda
Would be awesome if they livestream some of the performances for those of us who can’t make it to Barbados.
While I’m thrilled about our participation in Carifesta, I also hope this signifies a renewed and sustained commitment to the arts and culture sector at home. We need more than just one-off opportunities. We need better funding for local arts programs, more public spaces for artists to perform and display their work, and structured mentorship programs for our young, emerging talent. A strong presence at Carifesta should be built on a strong foundation here in Antigua and Barbuda.
